Beautiful Butterfly

Butterflies are beautiful, especially when you create them yourself. Make this delicate creature out of a clothespin and a colourful imagination.

Click here to go back to the previous page.

Time:
  1. 60 minutes or less

Age Group:
  1. 5 - 8

What you'll need:
  • BountyŽ paper towels

  • Clothespin

  • Food colouring

  • Pipe cleaner

  • Black marker

  • Thin wire

  • Glue

  • Scissors

Directions:
  1. Tie—dye two small paper towels with food colouring. Allow to dry.

  2. Put glue on each section of the bottom of the clothespin and cover with two small pieces of the tie-dyed paper towel. This is the head of the butterfly.

  3. For the butterfly’s wings, fold the remainder of the towels "accordion" style and insert into the clothespin. Gently spread the wings.

  4. Insert a pipe cleaner into the "mouth" of the butterfly, twist on top, and trim for antennae.

  5. Add eyes with a black marker.

  6. To make the butterfly fly, hang with thin wire.
