Mirror Painting

Be ready for your next close-up! Decorate a handheld mirror for your room or to carry in your purse.

Time:
  1. 30 to 60 minutes

Age Group:
  1. 9 - 12

What you'll need:
  • Handheld mirrors (you’ll find them in packages at crafts stores)

  • Glass paint outliners

  • Nontoxic, water-based glass stain

  • Paintbrushes

  • BountyŽ paper towels for spills and cleanup

Directions:
  1. If the mirror you’ve chosen has a border pattern already on it, use your outliner like a pen to follow the pattern. Apply gentle pressure on the outliner to squeeze a steady stream of paint onto the glass. Blot any spills with the paper towels as you go along. If your mirror has no border pattern, use your outliner to create a decorative border of your own.

  2. Let your outline dry completely. Once it is hard, use a paintbrush to fill in colour inside your border pattern. Work with one colour at a time, using a dry brush. Before moving on to the next colour, wash and dry your brush thoroughly.

  3. Clean up with soap, water, and paper towels.

  4. Let your mirror dry overnight.
