Paper Towel Flowers

Here’s an easy and inexpensive craft project that even preschoolers will enjoy painting. Consider using for holiday "centrepieces" and decorate with appropriate colours and embellishments. See photo for folding examples.

Time:
  1. 30 to 60 minutes

Age Group:
  1. 4 and under

What you'll need:
  • BountyŽ paper towels (single square sheets)

  • Watercolour paints

  • Paintbrushes

  • Embellishments such as buttons, sparkly gems, etc., for the centre

  • Glue

Directions:
  1. Fold the paper towel in half and then in half the other way, so you have a smaller square. Unfold the paper towel and find the point in the middle where all four lines meet. This is the centre.

  2. Fold each corner of the paper towel in toward the centre. Now fold each new corner in toward the centre again, so you have an even smaller square—just smaller than 20 cm x 20 cm.

  3. Turn your paper towel over and fold each corner in toward the centre one last time. Your square now should measure about 10 cm x 10 cm.

  4. Glue down the points in the centre. Choose a pretty button, sparkly gem, or other embellishment and glue it down to make the centre of your flower.

  5. To create the petals, press down on one of the front corners, while you lift up and out on one of the pointed flaps around the back. Repeat for all four corners.

  6. Paint the flower with watercolours.
